Dreamstate SoCal is Insomniac's flagship trance festival, and the event that started the whole Dreamstate brand. Insomniac launched it in 2015 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, betting that there were enough trance fans in Southern California to fill a festival built on nothing but the genre. The bet paid off. After six years in the Inland Empire, the festival moved to the Queen Mary Waterfront in Long Beach in 2023, trading desert dust for an open-air site next to a historic ocean liner that now draws crowds reported above 25,000 per day. The format splits trance by subgenre across four stages: The Dream for main-stage uplifting and vocal trance, The Sequence for psytrance, The Vision for the wider spectrum, and The Void for harder, darker sounds. Lineups read like a who's who of the genre, from Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond and Paul van Dyk to Ferry Corsten and Vini Vici. The 2025 tenth-anniversary edition added a rare Tiesto trance set. The 2026 return runs November 20 and 21, with The Void moving to the adjacent Long Beach Amphitheater for more room.

Dreamstate SoCal has a real broadcast track record through its parent Insomniac, which streams the festival free on its YouTube and Twitch channels rather than behind a paywall. The genre got a standalone Dreamstate livestream on May 8, 2020 during the pandemic shutdown, part of the Road to EDC series, with sets from Gabriel and Dresden, Paul Oakenfold, Christopher Lawrence and Infected Mushroom. Once the in-person festival returned, Insomniac carried multi-day live coverage from the grounds, and the 2024 and 2025 editions were streamed on YouTube with full sets archived afterward. The 2025 broadcast included Tiesto's trance set, plus Maddix, Nifra, Solarstone and Roman Messer. Insomniac's broadcasts are free to watch, though stage coverage is selective rather than every stage at once.
It is Insomniac's only festival built entirely around trance, launched in 2015 as a dedicated home for the genre rather than a single stage inside a multi-genre event.
The four stages split the genre by subgenre: The Dream carries main-stage uplifting and vocal trance, The Sequence is the psytrance room, The Vision spans the broader spectrum, and The Void handles the harder and darker permutations.
Since 2023 it has run on the Queen Mary Waterfront in Long Beach, an open-air ocean-liner setting that draws crowds reported above 25,000 per day.
